Komenescu, Lazar

Education and teaching

In 1967-1972 he studied at the Faculty of International Trade of the Academy of Economics in Bucharest , then in 1973 he trained at the Sorbonne in Paris, after which he began his career in diplomacy.

He worked until 1982, later - was engaged in teaching activities. In 1982 - Associate Professor at the Bucharest Academy of Economics. In 1983 he received a doctorate.

Diplomatic activities

He returned to diplomacy in 1990, first worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania as a consultant. Since 1994 - Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 1995 became Secretary of State.

In 1998-2001 he was the head of the Romanian mission to NATO in the rank of ambassador, then until his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, he served as ambassador to the European Union .

For a short time he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the office of Popescu-Tericana .

In February 2009, he was appointed Romanian Ambassador to Berlin.

In November 2015, he again became Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Married, has a daughter. Speaks French, English, Spanish and German.

L. Comanescu is the author and co-author of books and textbooks, including:

• Economia Mondială (1985, 1990, 1995)
• Tehnicile tranzacțiilor economice internaționale (1989)
• Dicționar de relații economice internaționale (1993)

Published a number of articles in Romanian and foreign magazines: Tribuna Economică, Revista Română de Studii Internaționale, Revista Română de Drept Comunitar, European Voice (Brussels), Bruxelles Capitale Diplomatique (Bruxelles), NATO Economic Colloquium (1995-1999-2001), Revista Europei Centrale și Orientale (1999), NATO Nations and Partners For Peace (1999), Romanian Journal of European Affairs (2002), Raportul IDEA - Stockholm (1997) și Nine O'Clock.
