History
Tourism in the Maldives dates back to 1972 . The United Nations Development Mission, which visited the islands in the 1960s, did not recommend tourism development in the Maldives. However, with the opening of the first resort in the Maldives in 1972, tourism in the Maldives began to flourish. The first tourist group arrived in the Maldives in February of that year. Tourism development in the Maldives began with the advent of only two resorts, designed for 280 people, in the village of Kurumba and on the island of Bandos, the resort on the island of Kurumba was the first of them. Resort Description
The tourist resort in the Maldives consists of an exclusive hotel on the island that is its property, with a population of tourists and their staff, there are no local people or houses on such islands.
Such islands, intended for the development of tourism, usually have dimensions of about 800 to 200 meters and consist of sand and corals, I rise to a maximum height of 2 meters above sea level. In addition to its beaches, each island has its own “home reef”, serving as a coral garden and a natural aquarium for scuba divers and divers. The shallow depth of the “house reefs” also protects swimmers from ocean waves and strong tidal currents outside the “house”.
