In March 1944, Soviet troops liberated Right-Bank Ukraine. On March 24, 1944, Trunkin’s unit reached the Dniester River. A combat mission was set to speed up the river. The machine gunner secretly overcame the river and entrenched at a height on the bank of the enemy. When the unit began to force the river, Trunkin from the rear opened fire on the enemy. The successful crossing of the river by his unit was largely due to his actions.
