Biography

Wetzel was born in 1747 in Germany. He studied theology , law , philosophy and philology at the University of Leipzig . [2] In the early years he was impressed by the philosophers John Locke and Julien Ofre de Lametri . [3] Wetzel was a mentor in the courts of Bautzen and Berlin . After that, he did not live long in Vienna , where he tried to get a job as a worker in the local national theater, but he failed. So he returned to Leipzig . Then, in 1793 , he arrived in his native Sondershausen , where he lived until his death in 1819 . [2]

Although his works were in great demand after publication, Wetzel was almost forgotten after his death. [4] But in the second half of the 20th century, popularity again came to his works. This happened due to the German author Arno Schmidt , who in 1959 published a radio essay about him. [five]
