Biography
The son of a teacher. He studied music in Prague under the direction of , then studied in Weimar with Franz Liszt . At the age of 15, he enrolled as a home music teacher in the aristocratic family of Count von Westphal. Since 1862 he lived and worked in Berlin, since 1863 he taught at the New Academy of Music of Theodor Kullak . He performed in Germany, Austria-Hungary, Sweden, wrote many salon piano pieces, a piano concert, a number of chamber ensembles; most enjoyed small cycles of piano compositions - such as “Six German fairy tales” ( German: Sechs deutschen Märchenbilder ) op. 136, “Swiss Paintings” ( German: Schweizer Bilder ) op. 137, “On Lake Geneva” ( German: Am Genfer See ) op. 139.
Died of typhoid . He was buried in the French cemetery of Berlin [3] .
