History
Production of the station wagon began in late 1992. Unlike the base model, the GAZ-31029 , which had a substantially redesigned body with new front and rear ends, the GAZ-31022 station wagon from its ancestor - the GAZ-24-12 station wagon - differed only in the front part, unified with the GAZ-31029, including spars , fenders, hood, grille, engine compartment shield, bumpers and lighting equipment. The whole body behind the engine compartment shield was identical to the previous model.
Despite the designation according to which the car was supposed to be a modification of the GAZ-3102 model , it had no actual relation to it, since the GAZ-3102 floor panel was not adapted to create a station wagon car β this was prevented by the location of the gas tank above the rear axle. Several experimental station wagons with a front end from the GAZ-3102 were produced, however, they also had a floor panel similar to the GAZ-31029 (and 24-10).
Despite a significant decline in government procurement, the car was still quite in demand, primarily as an ambulance car, with both models being used, some cars manufactured in the 90s were used in medical facilities until the second half of the 2000s.
The production of this station wagon in different versions ended in 1998, the successor - GAZ-310221 - in fact retained the same characteristics and almost the same look, adjusted already for the GAZ-3110 sedan. Not a few generalists have been preserved, however, not all of them are on the go and not in the factory version .
