Life and work
Gazanfar Halykov was born in 1898 in Baku [1] . In 1928 he graduated from the Azerbaijan State Art College. He is the author of sharp topical cartoons in the magazines Molla Nasruddin (1929-30) and Kirpie (Hedgehog; 1953-58 ). Halykov used the compositional techniques of medieval miniaturists to create watercolor drawings for the poems Khosrov and Shirin ( 1940 ) and Iskander-name ( 1953 ) Nizami Ganjavi [2] . Halykov also wrote a number of posters, theatrical sketches, graphic series ("Oil fields", 1949 ) [4] . He created such paintings as “ Firdausi 's Funeral ” ( 1934 , National Museum of Art of Azerbaijan named after Rustam Mustafayev , Baku ), a portrait of Nizami ( 1940 , Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi , Baku) [2] .
