Biography

Born July 15, 1919 in the village of Small Kopeny (now the Atkarsky district of the Saratov region ). Member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940.

Member of the Great Patriotic War since 1941. He fought on the North-Western, Leningrad, Volkhov and Karelian fronts.

On January 20, 1944, the Platitsin battalion entered Novgorod. The city was liberated, but a strong German fortification was located in the west. Platitsin made a roundabout maneuver and, going behind enemy lines, defeated the defenses.

The title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal was awarded on August 26, 1944 "for personal bravery and skillful leadership of the battalion when defeating the enemy near Novgorod."

In 1980, he was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of Novgorod”.

He died on November 23, 1994. Buried in Moscow .
