History

The monastery was founded in 1628 by Apolonniy Volovich and Vasily Kopets at the ancient Church of the Introduction of the Mother of God , which housed the ancient miraculous icon of the Virgin in the form of an encolpion cross , known as the Kupyatitsky Icon of the Mother of God [1] .

The first monks came to the monastery from the Vilnius Holy Spirit Monastery in 1629 [2] .

A few years after the foundation, the monastery became the subject of conflict between the Orthodox and the Uniates . The monastery still remained Orthodox, thanks to its abbot hegumen Joseph [3] .

In 1743 the monastery was assigned to the Epiphany monastery of Pinsk .

And in 1817 the monastery was closed due to the small number of monks and poverty [4] .

Famous inhabitants

Athanasius of Brest (c. 1595 - 1648) - the holy Russian Orthodox Church , a polemicist, an ardent opponent of the decisions of the Union of Brest .
