Herbert Haase was born in 1896 (according to other sources - in 1897 ) in St. Petersburg.

In 1915, he graduated from the Main German School of St. Peter ( Petrishule ), after which he entered St. Petersburg University . Not having completed his studies, in 1916, Haase was called up for service in the tsarist army . At an accelerated rate, he graduated from the Pavlovsk Military School and, having received the rank of ensign , was sent to the front of the First World War [1] .

In 1918, Haase went to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He participated in battles on the Eastern Front against the Russian army of Kolchak , being the commander of a platoon, company, and battalion. For differences in battles in 1919, he was appointed commander of the 127th Infantry Regiment of the 15th Infantry Division . Repeatedly distinguished himself in battles [1] .

On August 7, 1920, the Haase regiment stormed the Korsunsky Monastery on the Dnieper , knocking out parts of the Wrangel’s Russian Army from there [2] . By order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic No. 213 of October 18, 1922, the regiment commander Herbert Haase was awarded the first Order of the Red Banner of the RSFSR [3] .

Haase was later transferred to Central Asia and appointed assistant commander of the Bukhara group of forces. Actively participated in battles with basmachi formations. September 10 - 11, 1922, he participated in the battle near the village of Quiet Kuluk near Bukhara . Having assumed the leadership of the detachment of the 31st Cavalry Brigade, he led him to storm. The Basmachi were defeated, and the Soviet units captured significant trophies. In that battle, Haase was killed [2] . He was buried in the city of Kagan (now - Uzbekistan ), an obelisk was installed on the grave of Haase [1] .

By order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic No. 216 of October 22, 1922, Herbert Haase was posthumously awarded the second Order of the Red Banner of the RSFSR [3] .
