6C1 "Canary"

6C1 “Kanareyka” is a Soviet rifle-grenade launcher complex created at TsNIItochmash under a 5.45x39 mm cartridge on the basis of the AKS-74U assault rifle and the BS-1 silent grenade launcher (RGA-86). Originally developed for the needs of special forces and reconnaissance and sabotage units of the Soviet Army .

The complex includes:

  • a special silent modification of the 5.45 mm Kalashnikov assault rifle with a folding shoulder rest AKS-74UB ;
  • PBS-4 silent and flameless firing device;
  • special 30-mm silent grenade launcher BS-1 .

Shooting from an assault rifle with PBS-4 can be carried out by both special US ammunition (reduced speed) with a subsonic initial velocity of a weighted bullet, and conventional cartridges. The range of ammunition for a grenade launcher includes two types of shots - combat armor-piercing incendiary (designation VOG-T) and training with an inert warhead. The maximum sighting range from a grenade launcher is 400 m. The cumulative grenade provides penetration of 15 mm thick armor and the necessary back-range action on the target. Stabilization of the grenade in flight is carried out by its rotation, for which ready-made protrusions are made on the outside of the grenade body to follow the cuts in the barrel of the grenade launcher. To mitigate recoil when firing a grenade, a rubber shock absorber of the same type is used on the butt plate of the butt, which is used for machine guns with GP-25 ( GP-30 ).
