Geographical position
It is located in the southern part of the Sasovskiy district , 24 km south of the district center on the Tsna River .
Nearest settlements:
- Tarhan village 0.5 km southeast;
- the village of New Berezovo - adjoins from the north-west.
The nearest railway station is Sasovo , 24 km north along an asphalt road.
Nature
Forest-steppe zone. There are no natural forests.
Climate
The climate is temperate continental with moderately hot summers (average July temperature +19 ° C) and relatively cold winters (average January temperature -11 ° C). Precipitation is about 600 mm per year.

Hydrography
The village stretches for almost two kilometers along the left bank of Tsna .
Soil
In the valley and the floodplain, Tsoni are alluvial soils (loams and sandy loams), higher, turning into chernozem to the southwest.
History
The estate has been known since the last third of the 17th century. At the end of the XVIII century belonged to Colonel I.A. Molchanov, in the first quarter of the XIX century, the noblewoman N.F. Protasieva (1776-1840), who married the writer from the circle of the enlightener N.I. Novikov, county leader of the nobility of Prince P.N. Engalycheva (1769-1829) and then their daughters, Princess A.P. Engalycheva. At the beginning of the 20th century, the estate was transferred by kinship to General Prince N.A. Engalychev (d. 1914), married to O.V. Alexandrova (d. 1929).
The Church of the Epiphany of 1802 in the classicism style with the refectory of the second half of the 19th century and the building of the parish school have been preserved.
Prince P.N. Engalyacheva, his daughter, Princess A.P. Engalychev and possibly other family members portrayed O.A. Kiprensky, V.L. Borovikovsky and D.G. Levitsky [3] .
In 1893, the Old Berezovo was part of the Novo-Berezovskaya volost of the Shatsky district of the Tambov province . From 2004 to the present, it has been part of the Novoberezovsky rural settlement . Until that moment, it was part of the Novoberezovsky rural district .
