Initial biography

Yakov Evseevich Babitsky was born on January 26, 1910 in Minsk (now the Republic of Belarus ).

Military Service

Pre-war time

In September 1928, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army , after which he was sent to study at the L.B. Krasin Moscow Artillery School , after which in May 1931 he was promoted to the position of platoon commander of the artillery battalion of the 144th rifle regiment ( 48 I am a rifle division , Moscow Military District ), in November of the same year - to the post of commander of a training platoon of the 49th artillery regiment ( 49th rifle division ).

From May to October 1932 and from January to August 1933, Babitsky was studying at the Shooting Tactical Course.

In August 1933, he was appointed commander of the battery of the mechanized brigade named after K.B. Kalinovsky , and from May 1934 he served as assistant chief of staff of the tank battalion of the 14th mechanized brigade . In May 1935 he was transferred to the 1st mechanized brigade ( Belarusian Military District ), where he served as assistant chief of staff of a tank battalion, then was successively appointed to the post of chief of the 4th and chief of the 1st brigade headquarters.

In January 1937 he was sent to intelligence courses at the Intelligence Directorate of the Red Army , after which in August he was sent to the 6th tank brigade , where he served as chief of the 2nd and 1st brigade headquarters.

In September 1940, he was appointed the head of the mobilization-planning department of the automotive armored directorate of the Western Military District , in December - the post of chief of the 1st division of the headquarters of the 4th tank division , and in April 1941 - the position of chief of the 1st division of the staff 17th mechanized corps .

Great Patriotic War

Since the beginning of the war, Babitsky was in the same position and took part in a border battle in Belarus and in the Battle of Smolensk .

In September 1941, he was appointed to the post of deputy chief of staff, and then to the post of chief of staff of the 15th tank brigade , which took part in the Donbas defense and Barvenkovo-Lozovsky offensive operations .

In April 1942, he was appointed to the post of chief of the operational department of the headquarters of the 3rd Tank Corps , which conducted defensive military operations, and then took part in the Rzhev-Sychev offensive operation .

In January 1943, he was appointed Chief of Staff, and in October, Commander of the 5th Tank Corps , who took part in the Rzhev-Vyazma and Orel offensive operations , in November 1943 - in offensive and defensive operations in the Vitebsk region, in July 1944 - in Rezhitsko-Dvinsk and Belarusian offensive operations and during the liberation of the city of Krustpils , and in the fall of 1944 - in the Riga offensive operation . From January 1945, Yakov Evseevich Babitsky served as chief of staff of the same corps.

Post War Career

After the war, Babitsky was in his former position in the 5th tank corps of the Northern Group of Forces .

From December 1946, he served as commander of the 32nd Guards Mechanized Division . In July 1947, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the 8th Mechanized Army ( Prikarpatsky Military District ), in June 1952 - Deputy Commander for Armored and Mechanized Forces of the 6th Infantry Corps ( Don Military District ), and in April 1954 - to the post of assistant commander of the 18th Guards Rifle Corps .

Colonel Yakov Evseevich Babitsky in December 1955 went to the reserve. He died in 1971 in Omsk . He was buried at the Old-Northern Cemetery.
