Description
Small short- winged stafilinida beetles , body length 3.5 mm. Primary color from brown to black. Elytra longer than pronotum. 1st – 5th antennal segments longer than their width; 6th – 10th antenomeres subquadral, 11th segment longer than its width; 1st antenna is 2 times longer than the second; 3rd segment 1.5 times as long as second; 4th segment slightly shorter than 3rd segment; 5th segment slightly shorter than 4th segment; 6–9th segments almost equal in length; 10th segment slightly longer than previous one, but shorter than 11th. The length of the elytra is 0.75 mm, width - 0.67 mm. The pronotum length is 0.64 mm and the width is 0.49 mm [1] . The species was first described in 2011 by American entomologists Stylianos Hatzimanolis (Stylianos Chatzimanolis; University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, USA ) and Michael Engel ( Michael S. Engel ; University of Kansas, Lawrence, USA) [1] . Currently [ when? ] The genus Diochus Erichson, 1839 (about 40 species) [2] together with the genera Coomania and Antarctothius forms the tribe Diochini Casey, 1906 [1] [3] [4] . At the time of the description, Diochus electrus was the first fossil representative of the dcuj of the large subfamily Staphylininae [1] . the species previously described from Baltic amber, Bembicidiodes inaequicollis (LW Schaufuss, 1888), was originally considered as a member of Staphylininae . However, rechecking the type specimen in 2001 by L. Herman (LH Herman) showed the fallacy of such an inclusion. Diochus electrus is one of 11 species of the genus Diochus , found in the Palearctic [1] .
