The government of Edward Benes is the fifth Czechoslovak government after the proclamation of the state. It was a government of a popular coalition. Initially, it had the status of a semi-temporary cabinet. Replaced the non-partisan government of Jan Cherny. It was supported by the Five (leaders of the five largest parties that usually formed government coalitions in Czechoslovakia).

During 1922, it became clear that Benesh could not be both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Diplomatic duties often distracted him from the country, and the government had to carry out his activities in the absence of the prime minister at his meetings. Finally, an agreement was concluded to create a government of representatives of all parties of the Five. Antonin Schwegla appointed Prime Minister.
