Biography
Born May 17, 1907 in Sarajevo . From the age of 7, a Jew in Mostar, graduated from elementary school there and got a job as a mechanic. Since 1925 he was in the labor movement, since 1928 a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. After the establishment of the Shestoyanvar dictatorship was arrested in 1929 and sentenced to two years in prison. The punishment was serving in Sremska Mitrovica.
After his release in 1931, Carlo returned to Mostar, but limited himself to party work. Consisted in the Herzegovina Regional Committee, was involved in a strike at the mines in 1940, for which he was arrested. After the beginning of the war in July 1941, he joined the partisan movement: he received his baptism of fire in the battles of Divine, Fatnitz and Plan. For some time he was in Zagreb, but then returned to Mostar, and from there he headed towards Kalinovik and Fochi. He held the post of political officer of the company and the battalion in the Kalinovik detachment.
In May-June 1942, at the height of the Third Anti-Partisan Offensive, the guerrillas joined the 10th Herzegovina proletarian strike brigade , and Carlo was the company political instructor in the 5th battalion.
He died on March 2, 1943 in the village of Bijela together with Rade Spanac during the bombing. The title of the People’s Hero was awarded posthumously on July 5, 1951 .
