Garpal Crater ( lat. Gardner ) - a small young impact crater on the border of the Gulf of Dew and the Sea of Cold on the visible side of the Moon . The name was given in honor of the ancient Greek astronomer , friend and treasurer Alexander the Great , Harpal (IV century BC) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater dates back to the Eratosthenes period [1] .

Crater Description
The immediate neighbors of the crater are Markov Crater in the west, South Crater in the northwest, Robinson and Horrebou Craters in the north, Booger Crater in the east, and Foucault Crater in the southeast. In the west of the crater beyond the Gulf of Dew lies the Ocean of Storms , in the east-southeast are the Jura Mountains [2] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 39.8 km [3] , depth 3.6 km [4] .
The crater has a polygonal shape, practically did not undergo destruction, the shaft edge is clearly defined, surrounded by a powerful external slope especially developed in the northern part. The inner slope of the shaft has a terrace-like structure, somewhat narrowed in the northern part. The average height of the crater shaft above the surrounding area is 1020 m [5] , the volume of the crater is approximately 1,100 km³ [5] . The bottom of the crater bowl is relatively flat, there is a group of central peaks with a height of 200 to 400 m [1] .
Garpal crater is included in the list of craters with a bright ray system of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Astronomy (ALPO) [6] .
