Biography
Alexander Arzumanyan was born on December 24, 1959 in Yerevan. Graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of Yerevan State University . In 1985-1988, he worked as a software engineer at the Yerevan Research Institute of Automated Control Systems . From 1988 to 1990 he was the director of the information center “ ANM ”, and in 1990-1991 he was the assistant to the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR . In 1991, by the decision of the Supreme Council and the Council of Ministers of Armenia, he was sent to the United States in order to establish a diplomatic mission. In 1992-1993 he was the ambassador of Armenia to the USA , in 1992-1996 he was the permanent representative of Armenia to the UN . From 1996 to 1998, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia .
Since 1998, engaged in political and social activities. In 2000-2002, he was the chairman of the board of the “ ANM ”, in 2001-2004 - a member of the “Armenian-Turkish Reconciliation Commission”. He headed the election headquarters of Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the 2008 presidential election . After the riots in Yerevan was arrested. In June 2009, he was released under an amnesty [1] .
In 2011, he became one of the founders of the Free Democrats party. In 2012, he was elected a deputy to the Armenian parliament , and was deputy chairman of the commission on foreign relations.
In 2013, he quit the Free Democrats party and is one of the initiators of the restoration of the ANM.
