History

King Charles X. Hood. R. Lefebvre, 1826.
Among the awards there is the Order of Loyalty.

On April 26, 1814, the Lilia insignia was established to reward distinguished representatives of the National Guard of Paris. The badge testified to the merits of the national guards during the difficult period for France to change the supreme power . Already on May 9, this difference was extended to the National Guard of other regions of France.

In order to distinguish the National Guard of Paris from the rest, and also as a sign of new merit during the Hundred Days , King Louis XVIII by decree of February 5, 1816 [K 2] established the distinction of Fidelity . The new distinction was exclusively for the Paris Guard [K 3] .

The Sign of Fidelity had 2 degrees, gold and silver. A gold badge could be awarded " showing the greatest zeal for service, or marked by devotion to the cause ", provided that the recipient already had a silver badge for at least a year.

After King Louis Philippe came to power, by royal decree of February 10, 1831, all the insignia established in memory of the events of 1814 and 1815, including the insignia of allegiance, were abolished.

Description

Sign of the 2nd degree - a silver inverted five-pointed star of white enamel with balls at the ends. Between the upper rays of the star is a silver lily flower ( fr. Fleur de lys ), over which a silver royal crown is fixed. In the center of the star’s face is a round gold medallion with a rim of blue enamel. In the center of the medallion is a profile portrait to the left of King Louis XVIII, on the rim of the inscription: “FIDELITE” and “DEVOUEMENT”, and three stars at the bottom. In the center of the back of the star there is the same medallion, in the center of which there is an image of a lily flower, and on the rim of the inscription: "12 AVRIL - 3 MAI 1814" and "19 MARS - 3 JUILLET 1815". At the top of the crown there is a ring through which the ribbon is passed.

The sign of the 1st degree is the same as the sign of the 2nd degree, but completely golden.

The tape is silk moire from three stripes of equal width: two blue ( French bleu roi ) and one white.

Comments

  1. ↑ In official documents, the award was called décoration (fr. - insignia), but soon after the establishment in France itself (mainly in monarchist circles, to enhance prestige), and then in world phaleristic literature, the award was assigned the name ordre (fr . - order) [1] [2] . For the traditional award system of France, the use of the term ordre is typical for institutions that are organized according to the principle of ancient knights' orders (with a grandmaster, chapter and clear hierarchy - the Order of the Holy Spirit , the Order of the Legion of Honor ), and is not applicable for insignia that do not have such an organization ( order Lilies , July Cross ).
  2. ↑ The date also appears on April 15, 1816 [3] [4] .
  3. ↑ In fact, the new sign was seen as the same sign of Lily, but with a new appearance.
