Biography
Born in a peasant family in the village of Bredza, Georgian SSR. Having brilliantly graduated from high school in the village of Avlevi (due to the lack of a school educational institution in her native village), in 1951 she entered the philological faculty of the South Ossetian State Pedagogical Institute. Having received a red diploma of graduation from the institute (1955), she continued the activities of a junior research fellow at the Department of Georgian Language and Literature of her native institute. However, since 1959, she preferred journalistic activities to her scientific work, starting her career in the regional newspaper “Sabchota Oseti” (“Soviet Ossetia”) in Tskhinval. Then for more than 30 years she was the editor of the publishing house Iryston, Tskhinval.
She began her literary career as a translator in the 1960s. Thanks to her brilliant translations, the Georgian reader is familiar with folklore and classics of Ossetian literature, as well as with weighty works of modern Ossetian writers. She is the author of the first fundamental translation into Georgian of the Ossetian heroic epic “Narts”. [1] For a great cultural and literary contribution M. Tskhovrebova was awarded the state award - the Order of Honor.
The work of M. Tskhovrebova is a particle of the literary heritage of the USSR. In addition to literary translations of works from Georgian to Ossetian and vice versa, her own writings belong to her: novel, novel, short stories and short stories. The novel “The Immortal Root”, created by M. Tskhovrebova in the Ossetian language and subsequently authoritatively translated into Georgian, is the most significant work of her work, however, her novels brought her true popularity and love of the reader.
Married, three daughters.
He lives in Tskhinval.
