Activities
The Los Masatlekos group was formed in the coastal city of Mazatlan, from where it took its name. Initially, the gang was in the service of drug lord Alfredo Beltran Leyva (El Mochomo) until he was arrested by the Mexican authorities in 2008. After this arrest, the group was led by brother Alfredo Beltran Leiva Hector, who also became the leader of Beltran Leiva Cartel. The group was one of the largest gangs associated with the cartel.
Los Masatlekos are at war with the Sinaloa cartel. Also, its members are responsible for numerous cases of killings and kidnappings in the states of Sinaloa and Durango.
Hector Leiva was arrested on October 1, 2014 by the Mexican army. [one]
