Content

History

The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded in 1795 . The municipality of Barbosa was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1812 .

The city is located in the central part of the department, on the right bank of the Porse River, approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1472 meters above sea ​​level [1] .
The municipality of Barbosa borders in the north with the municipality of Donmatias , in the east with the municipality of Santo Domingo , in the south with the municipalities of Concepcion and San Vicente , in the west with the municipality of Hirardot . The area of ​​the municipality is 206 km² [2] .

Population

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 49.2% of the population of Barbosa, women - respectively, 50.8%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 96% of the city's population; blacks , mulattoes and Raysals - 4% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 89.8%.

Economics

The basis of the economy of Barbosa is pulp and paper and textile industries, as well as agricultural production and tourism.
49.6% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 38.8% are service enterprises, 10% are industrial enterprises, 1.6% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
