History
Archaeological evidence indicates the existence of a settlement on the site of the city even during the Paleolithic . The medieval settlement is associated with the construction of the Przemysl castle Rokiten in the region of Rokitna . The existence of this settlement is confirmed by archaeological data from the XIII century .
The first written mention of the existence of the estate and the castle dates back to 1289 , however, most likely, the city was founded by King Przemysl Otakar II (1253-1278). The local name Krumlov is mentioned in Latin in a letter to King Rudolph of Habsburg from 1277. The city received the name Moravian-Krumlov in the middle of the 17th century to differ from Krumlov in the Czech Republic .
The Gothic castle of the late 13th century , later rebuilt in the Renaissance style , was reconstructed in the 18th and 19th centuries.
