Biography
He graduated from elementary school in his native village. From the age of 11, he worked as a novice in the nearby Klisursky Holy Archangel Monastery .
In December 1963 he moved to the Studenica monastery , where he remained thirty years, having passed all the obediences from the monastery novice to the monk, and then the bishop.
From 1967 to 1969 he attended the first post-war monastic school of the Serbian Church in the Ostrog monastery , which he successfully graduated from. After its completion, he served in the military.
On April 24, 1971, Studenica took monastic tonsure at the monastery, and the next day he was ordained bishop Vasily (Kostich) of Bishop of ичičy to the rank of hierodeacon .
In 1971, with the blessing of the ruling bishop, Hierodeacon John entered the five-year seminary of St. Sava in Belgrade.
On July 25, 1973, while studying at the seminary, he was ordained to the rank of hieromonk .
In 1974 he graduated from the seminary with excellent success.
Since 1976 he studied at the Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade . In 1980 he defended his diploma. At the same time he carried the obedience of the vice-governor-deputy student igumen protosingel Simeon (Vasilievich) .
On July 25, 1980, by order of Bishop Stefan of скогоiča and unanimous desire of the members of the monastic fraternity, he replaced Archimandrite Iulian (Knezhevich), rector of Studenica.
In 1983, it was produced in Sincella , in 1986 - in Protosinkella . In 1989 he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite .
On May 25, 1993, at a meeting of the Holy Bishops' Council, he was elected Bishop of Tetovsky, Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, with all the rights and obligations of the diocesan bishop for the diocese on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia .
On July 25 of that year, in the Bogoroditsky church of the Studenitsky monastery, his episcopal ordination took place, which was performed by the Patriarch of Serbia Pavel in the service of 24 bishops.
In May 1994, he was appointed Bishop of West America .
September 18, 1994 at the Cathedral Church of St. Stephen the Baptized in the Alhambri, Los Angeles, California, he was consecrated , led by Patriarch Paul.
In the USA, 9 new parishes were founded by the efforts of Vladyka John, churches in Los Angeles, Jackson, Eugene and others were renovated and built. In 2000, he accepted into the jurisdiction of the Serbian Church the famous Orthodox monasteries of Herman of Alaska in Platinum , California, and Paisius Velichkovsky near Safford, Arizona. He put a lot of effort into the publication of the “Prologue” by St. Nicholas (Velimirovich) in English . He organized the broadcast of the diocesan radio and the website of the Western American Diocese.
Since May 31, 2002 - Bishop of Shumadi [1] .
On November 22, 2005, together with Bishop Ignatius (Midić), he represented the Serbian Orthodox Church on the intronization of Patriarch Theophilus III [2] .
On October 5–9, 2012 he accompanied Patriarch of Serbia Irenaeus (Gavrilovich) during his visit to Egypt [3]
On June 1, 2013, the Council of Bishops was approved by the administrator of the Zhych diocese .
January 30, 2015 received the Gold Medal and became a permanent member of the Serbian Royal Academy of Scientists and Artists [4] .
