National Archive (Krakow)

The National Archives of Krakow or the Krakow National Archives ( Polish: Archiwum Narodowe w Krakowie ) is a state archive located in Krakow , Poland . The archive administration and several of its departments are located in Krakow in a building on 16 Sennaya street . In the courtyard of the administrative building of the National Archives is a monument to Kraku .

Department of the Krakow National Archives in Bochnia

On September 2, 1878, the Regional Archive of City and Zemstvo Acts was founded in Krakow. This day is considered the foundation day of the modern National Archive. Subsequently, the name of this archive changed several times. From 1919 to 1936 the archive was called as the “Zemsky Archive”, from 1936 it became known as the “State Archive of Krakow”.

At the same time, on June 2, 1987, the Krakow City Council founded the Archive of Ancient Acts of the City of Krakow. In 1951, this archive was included in the list of archives subordinate to the Chief Executive Officer of the State Archives, and from February 1, 1952 it was included in the State Archive of Krakow.

On December 5, 2012, by the decision of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Krakow State Archive was renamed the Krakow National Archive [1] .

The National Archive consists of the Central Department in Krakow, consisting of 8 departments and offices in the cities of Bochnia, Nowy Sacz, Tarnow. In the city of Nowy Targ and the village of Spitkowice are the expositions of the National Archives.

The central department consists of the following departments:

  • Division I - Zemstvo and city Old Polish acts, archives of clans and families, collections and collections. Located on Wawel 5;
  • Division II - administrative state special and general acts, legal acts of the XIX — XX centuries. Located on Grodzskaya street 52;
  • Division III - acts of the city of Krakow, territorial self-government, religious, educational and public organizations. The archive library operates within this department. Located on Sennaya street, 16;
  • Division IV - new acts after 1945 and acts of city administrative departments from the 19th to the 20th centuries, Located on Oreshkovaya street, 7;
  • Division V - cartographic materials and technical documentation. Located on Lubicz, 25b;
  • Section VI - supervision of the development of the archive fund. Located on Grodskaya street, 52;
  • Division VII - archive promotion department;
  • Division VIII - organizational and administrative department.
