An island on the Kharkov river , in the area of ​​a modern road junction at the intersection of the Gymnasium embankment and Podolsky lane (now there is a flower bed on this place and Podolsky bridge ).

The surroundings along the modern Netechenskaya embankment (about a hectare ) from the Podolsky bridge were at that time the island on which the townspeople held festive festivities and launched fireworks , given that private orchards were located on the island itself. In 1873 (according to some sources - in 1876) an iron foundry was opened on the island.

According to the Kharkov archive, in 1881, merchant Ivan Vasilievich Kostin received permission to install a mechanical and iron foundry on Vasilyevsky Island. According to P. A. Orlov’s book “Index of Factories and Plants of European Russia and the Kingdom of Poland” (1887), the plant “has been operating since 1867, has 2 cupolas and a steam engine of 8 liters. with. and casts up to 11,000 pounds of engine parts. "

Other information

Apparently, by the end of the XIX century, in connection with the transfer of the main channel of the Kharkov river and the drainage of Netecha , Vasilievsky Island disappeared, becoming part of the territory of Levada .
