Biography
Ivan Lyakin was born on June 24, 1912 in Moscow . After completing five classes of school he worked at the plant. In 1937, Lyakin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war, being the gunner of the guns of the 218th artillery regiment of the 51st rifle division of the 13th army of the North-Western Front [1] .
January 8 - 12, 1940 Lyakin participated in the breakthrough of the Finnish defense in the area of the village of Repola north of Vyborg [1] .
Distinguished during the battle for the station village. At night, before starting a general offensive, manually calculating (in order not to attract the attention of the enemy with noise and neighing horses) rolled out a 76-mm regimental gun to an open position for firing direct fire and disguised it, and with the beginning of the offensive - opened fire, destroying the building in which Finnish command post. Lyakin's gun continued to fire on the Finnish infantry under fire from the enemy, which were disabledthree out of four gunners [2] .
At the critical moment of the battle, he, together with his comrades, destroyed one anti-tank artillery gun and suppressed another fire, which contributed to the advancement of tank units [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 7, 1940, Red Lyreman Ivan Lyakin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal " Number 421 [1] .
In 1941, Lyakin graduated from the Moscow Artillery School. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. August 19, 1941 Lyakin died in battle. He was buried in the town of Chechersk, Gomel Region, Belarus [1] .
