Veikko Karvonen was born in 1926 in Saccola . In 1950 he became the silver medalist of the European Championship. In 1952, at the Helsinki Olympics, he took part in marathon competitions, where he finished 5th. In 1954 he won the European Championship. In 1956, he won a bronze medal in the marathon at the Olympic Games in Melbourne .
