Biography
Sergey Lykhin was born on October 25, 1914 in the village of Lykhino (now the Darovsky district of the Kirov region ). Since 1916 he lived in the territory of the modern Novosibirsk region , where he graduated from an incomplete secondary school and worked as a clerk. In February 1936, Lykhin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1937, he graduated from the Orenburg Military Aviation School of Pilots and Summerbags. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By the end of February 1944, Captain Sergey Lykhin was the navigator of the squadron of the 742th separate reconnaissance air regiment of the 14th Air Army of the Volkhov Front . By that time, he had made 165 sorties with air reconnaissance, personally destroyed 4 enemy aircraft in battles, aerial photography of an area of 3,500 square kilometers, found 25 enemy airfields, a number of accumulations of his military equipment and manpower [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 1, 1944, for "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown", Captain Sergei Lykhin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2702 [1] .
After the war, Lykhin continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1947, he graduated from the Krasnodar Higher Navigation Officer School. In 1958, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, Lykhin was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Krasnodar , worked at the Sovetskaya Kuban publishing house. He died on December 6, 1972, was buried in the Slavic cemetery of Krasnodar [1] .
He was also awarded three orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
