Sports Biography
Birute Shakitsken was born on November 26, 1968 in the city of Zarasai . Since 1993, the Lithuanian athlete began to speak at the largest international competitions. Initially, Shakitskene acted in single competitions, as well as in the quartet quartet.
In 1996, Shakitskene made her debut at the Atlanta Summer Olympics . Birute performed in lonely competitions. In the first round, the Lithuanian athlete took the 4th place in her heat and could not directly reach the semifinal. In the extra race, Shakitskene, finishing last, dropped out of the fight for medals and could only get to the finals C. In the consolation final, the Lithuanian athlete, showing the time 8: 17.80, came to the finish line second and took the final 14th place.
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Shakitsken competed in a doubles pair competition. Christine Poplavskaya became the partner of Birutė. In the first round, the Lithuanian crew showed a time of 7: 13.04 and took 2nd place in their swim. In the extra race, the Lithuanians confidently took the first place and were able to continue the fight for medals. In the decisive heat Shakitskene and Poplavskaya, showing the time 7: 01.71, could be third, losing only to rivals from Germany and the Netherlands.
At the world championships, the best result in the career of Shakitsken is the 4th place in 1999 in the competition of twos doubles. In 2004, Shakitskene completed her sports career.
