On the Big Carriage

Where are your seventeen years old?
At Bolshoi Karetny.
Where are your seventeen troubles?
At Bolshoi Karetny.
Where's your black gun?
At Bolshoi Karetny.
Where are you not today?
At Bolshoi Karetny.

Do you remember, comrade, this house?
No, you do not forget about him.
I’ll say that he lost half his life,
Who has not been to the Bolshoi Karetny!
Why, because

Where are your seventeen years old?
At Bolshoi Karetny.
...

Description

The song conveys the nostalgic experiences of the lyrical hero (who is largely associated with Vladimir Vysotsky himself) about the period of his life in Bolshoi Karetny Lane . The song was dedicated to the friend of Vysotsky's youth - Levon Kocharian [1] .

In his speeches, the author told about this time: “ When I started writing my songs, I intended to write them for a very small group of my close friends. We lived in Moscow many years ago, in an apartment in Bolshoi Karetny Lane, with my friend, Leva Kocharyan, for a year and a half. A good company was going there, I was there often, and Vasya Shukshin , Tarkovsky Andrey spent these years with us; and many others. Then such a friendly, relaxed, laid-back manner developed, I felt free, because these were my close friends - I knew that everything that I would sing and tell them was interesting to them. In general, these songs, I think, became known precisely because they have such a friendly mood, a desire to tell something, like that, to friends . ”
