Yagua ( Llagua, Nijyamïï Nikyejaada, Yagua, Yahua, Yava, Yegua ) is an Indian language spoken by the people of Yagua, who live in the Loreto region (from the Iquitos river to the Brazilian border) in the northeastern Amazonian territory of Peru. As of 2005, it turned out that several carriers may have migrated across the Peruvian-Colombian border near the city of Leticia (department of Amasonas , Colombia). A third of the population are monolingual, and yagua is the language of instruction in local elementary schools.
