Arvo Askola was born in 1909 in Valkeala (now the territory of the city of Kouvola ), the Grand Duchy of Finland . In 1934 he won the silver medal of the European Championship. In 1936, he won the silver medal in the 10 km race at the Olympic Games in Berlin .
