Tuomas Aatos Yli-Yaskari was born in 1904 in Nurmo (now in the territory of Seinajoki ). In 1931, he became the champion of Finland in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. In 1932, became the champion of Finland in freestyle wrestling, and at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles won the bronze medal. In 1933, 1935 and 1937 he again became the champion of Finland in freestyle wrestling. In 1936 he took part in freestyle wrestling competitions at the Olympic Games in Berlin , but this time he became only the 5th.
