Lauri Virtanen was born in 1904 in Uskela (now the territory of the city of Salo ), the Grand Duchy of Finland . In 1932, at the Los Angeles Olympics, he won two bronze medals - in the 5 and 10 km run; also took part in the marathon, but did not win medals.
