Alexander Lvovich Cherkasov (August 16, 1796 - September 16, 1856) - Pskov Governor in 1846-1856. Great-grandfather of the poet Alexander Blok.

From the nobility of the Novgorod province . He served in Siberia , then was appointed governor in Pskov , in which position he stayed 10 years - until his death.
He built the first iron foundry in Pskov. In 1848, he effectively fought against the cholera epidemic. He laid the Kutuzov Garden, which has been preserved to this day. Built a bridge over the Pskov River.
Valid state adviser . He was awarded the orders of St. Anne of the 1st degree, St. Stanislav of the 1st degree, St. Vladimir of the 4th degree.
He was buried in Pskov in the John the Baptist Convent.
He was married to Ariadne Ivanovna Tetyueva. Their daughter Ariadna married a Pskov lawyer and leader of the nobility of the Gdovsk district, Lev Aleksandrovich Blok (1823–1883). The daughter of Varvara Alexandrovna Chikhacheva is an amateur artist.
The building in which the Cherkasovs lived was called the Governor’s House and is a historical monument. From 1944 to 1966 it housed the regional library. Currently, there is a regional children and youth library named after V.A. Kaverina. Current address: 7a Oktyabrsky Avenue.
