Paavo Yurjöl was born in 1902 in Hämeenkürö ( Grand Duchy of Finland ). In 1924, he took part in the Olympic Games in Paris, but in athletics decathlon he became only 9th. In 1928, at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam, he became the champion in decathlon; also competed in high jump and shot put competitions. In 1932, he took part in the Los Angeles Olympics , where he was 6th in the track and field decathlon.
