OBPS "Mango" - a feathered armor-piercing armor-piercing projectile for tank guns of caliber 125 mm, developed in the USSR . Work on the topic "Mango" was started in 1983 , the weapon was adopted into service in 1986 . The index of the active part is 3BM-42; shell index - 3BM-44; the index of the whole shot is 3VBM-17. The projectile was widely distributed in the Russian army, and was also exported complete with Russian and Ukrainian tanks T-80U / T-80UD and T-90, delivered abroad in recent decades.
Design Description
This OBPS was positioned as a projectile of increased power. It was, in fact, a revolutionary shell in the USSR at the time of its appearance. The projectile has a complex structure. A ballistic tip is installed in the head of the swept body of the projectile, under which there is an armor-piercing cap; behind the armor-piercing cap, an armor-piercing damper is installed, which allows the projectile to “bite” well when it collides with an obstacle at an angle, and also plays a large role in breaking through. Behind the damper, two tungsten alloy cores are installed, which are held inside by an alloy metal jacket. The shirt melts when a shell collides with an obstacle, releasing cores. The body of the projectile has an expandable type master. A stabilizer in the form of plumage with five blades is installed in the tail of the projectile, a tracer is installed at the base of the stabilizer. The length of the active part of the projectile: 574 mm; weight of active part without master device: 4850 g. Normative armor penetration from 2000 m normal 450 mm, at an angle of 60 ° - 230 mm (Armor penetration at an angle of 60 ° is indicated in terms of the thickness of the plate being hit. To convert to an approximate penetration depth, multiply by 2). Average penetration from 2000 m normal: 500 mm steel.
