Toivo Tikkanen was born in 1888 in Rome , Italy . In 1920 at the Olympic Games in Antwerp, he took part in competitions in four shooting disciplines, and won silver and bronze medals. In 1924, at the Olympic Games in Paris, he took part in competitions in six shooting disciplines, and became the owner of a bronze medal.

He was buried in the Kulosaari Cemetery in Helsinki.
