The Center for Contemporary Art in Malaga ( Spanish: Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga , abbreviated CAC Málaga ) is a contemporary art museum specializing in a collection of sculptural and visual works created in the last third of the 20th century to the present. It was opened on February 17, 2003 in the building of the former wholesale market of Malaga, which functioned in the city center until the 1980s.
Following the German model of Kunsthaus , “houses of art”, the Center for Contemporary Art in Malaga implements an innovative program that is dynamic and open to new artistic trends and forms of expression, social, conceptual, political and aesthetic orientation of contemporary art. The museum building was built in 1937-1939 by the architect Luis Gutieres Soto .
The area of the museum is 6,000 m², 2,400 of which are given for exposition. The permanent collection of the Center for Contemporary Art in Malaga contains 400 works. The museum held temporary exhibitions of such famous artists as Louise Bourgeois , Jake and Dinos Chepmenov , Gerhard Richter , Paul McCarthy , Anish Kapoor , Raymond Pettibon , Ron Mueck , Yoshitomo Nara . The Center also hosts film screenings, art workshops and congresses.
