XX is the compilation album of the American alternative metal band Mushroomhead , released on December 4, 2001 via Universal Records . Initially, the album was released on the independent label Eclipse Records on May 8, 2001 [5] , but after selling 40,000 copies of the album in 2-3 months, the group switched to another label [6] . The album was remastered and reissued in other countries. This release is a collection of tracks from the albums Mushroomead , Superbuick and M3 . Musically, the album is made in the alternative metal genre, which combines such genres as industrial , gothic rock , punk rock and hip hop [2] . According to CJM magazine, the album “uses piano, clean vocals and complex song structures, which is like King for a Day ... Fool for a Lifetime by Faith No More ”. XX was the last release in which guitarist John Sekula participated - he was replaced by Marko Vukchevich, who previously played the role of a DJ , and this is also the first album in the recording of which a new member of the group participates - Rick Thomas.

About the album
Initially, the album XX was released on the indie label Eclipse Records on May 8, 2001 , but after a while the group entered into a contract with the major label Universal Records and re-recorded this release for it, supplementing the album with several new tracks, remastered it and reissued. During this period, Mushroomhead left rhythm guitarist John Sekula , who was replaced by Marco Vukcevic, who previously sat at the DJ console , while Rick Thomas took the place of Marco.
Universal Records includes the songs Fear Held Dear, Too Much Nothing, and a cover version of Pink Floyd 's song Empty Spaces. At concerts, this cover was the introduction to the song “Born of Desire” (before that the band used “Slow Thing” as an intro). Eclipse Records, in turn, contains the instrumental track “Epiphany”, and the track “Bwomp” also contains prank recordings over the telephone [3] .
Two videos were shot for songs from XX . The first was the video for the song “Solitare / Unraveling” ( directed by Dinn Carr). The video was shot in the hangar of aircraft in Southern California and shows the group in specially designed masks. The second clip was filmed on Before I Die. This clip can also be found in the first DVD of the group - Vol.1 . These compositions were broadcast on different channels [8] , among others Uranium , MTV2 and MT2 Rocks [9] .
