Legislative Election in Italy (1934)

The general parliamentary elections in Italy in 1934 were held on March 25 . They approved 535 members of the Chamber of Deputies of the Kingdom of Italy from the ruling National Fascist Party . Like the previous ones, these elections were held in the form of a plebiscite , during which voters were asked to vote for or against the only list of candidates proposed by the Fascist Great Council . The voting procedure was designed so that voters could not be absolutely sure that the secrecy of the vote would be respected, although formally the law guaranteed confidentiality. Not surprisingly, the list of candidates for the Great Fascist Council was approved by 99.84% of the vote.

The percentage of active voters compared with previous elections has risen again, almost reaching a maximum. 10 061 978 people out of 10 526 504 who had the right to vote took part in the vote (the Italian population at that time exceeded 42 million), thus the turnout was 95.59%.

These elections were the last in the history of fascist Italy . In 1939, during the formation of the Chamber of Fascias and Corporations (the name was given to the Chamber of Deputies of the XXX convocation), neither elections nor plebiscites were held, all its members, “national advisers” ( Italian Consiglieri Nazionali ), were appointed by the Great Fascist Council, the National Council of the National fascist party and the National Council of Corporations .
