In 2011, the British singer Birdy recorded a cover version of "Shelter" and released it as the second single from her debut album [1] . Later, the musicians Hercules and Love Affair recorded their cover version .
Single Birdy
The single Birdy "Shelter" went on sale on June 3, 2011 in digital distribution format [1] . British radio host Fern Cotton, with BBC Radio 1, selected this song as "Record of the Week." In the UK Singles Chart charts, "Shelter" made it to the 50th spot. In season 8 of The X Factor, the British talent show, Sophie Habibis performed Shelter in Birdy during the fourth week of the competition. [2]
In a publication by BBC Music, “Shelter” is described as a song that sets the tone for the entire album [3] . In a review by Allmusic, the song is called "more subtle and airy" than the original [4] . Music OMH noted in its review of the album that “Shelter” performed by Birdy has “painful beauty”, it “is not better or worse than the original, but just different” [5] .
The premiere of the Shelter video was released on YouTube on June 16, 2011, and was directed by Sophie Muller [6] .
