The early parliamentary elections of 1897 were held on 21 (first round) and on March 28 (second round). [1] 508 members of the Chamber of Deputies of the Kingdom of Italy were elected. The winner of the election was the ruling liberal party "Left" , representing the Italian bourgeoisie [2] , receiving almost 64% of the seats in parliament. [3] The Italian Republican Party first participated in these elections.

Voter activity has slightly decreased compared to previous elections. The vote was attended by 1,241,486 people out of 2,120,909 eligible to vote (the Italian population at that time was almost 32 million), thus the turnout was 58.54%. [four]
