Biography

Grigory Loiko was born on March 8, 1923 in the village of Novomyshastovskaya (now the Krasnoarmeysky district of the Krasnodar Territory ). After graduating from high school he worked on the collective farm . In March 1942, Loyko was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War [1] .

By September 1943 the junior sergeant Grigori Loiko commanded the mortar calculation of the 1st motorized rifle battalion of the 69th mechanized brigade of the 9th mechanized corps of the 3rd Guards Tank Army of the Voronezh Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . On the night of September 21-22, 1943, Loyko’s calculation crossed the Dnieper near the village of Zarubintsy in the Kanevsky district of the Cherkassy region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles to seize and hold the bridgehead on its western bank, destroying 8 fire points and about 100 soldiers and officers the adversary. In those battles, Loiko was seriously wounded [1] .

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 17, 1943, the junior sergeant Grigory Loiko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and was awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal for “successfully forcing the Dnieper River, fortifying the bridgehead on the west bank of the Dnieper River "Gold Star" [1] .

After the war, Loiko was demobilized. He lived in Kharkov , worked as a director of shoe repair factories. He died on December 30, 1981, was buried at Kharkov cemetery number 3 [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
