The general parliamentary elections of 1865 were held on October 22 (first round) and October 29 (second round) in 1865 . [1] 443 members of the Chamber of Deputies of the Kingdom of Italy were elected. The ruling liberal-conservative Pravaya party , led by the chairman of the Council of Ministers, General Alfonso Ferrero Lamarmora, spoke at them less successfully, gaining about 41% of the 443 seats in the house. [2] Nevertheless, the right, representing to a large extent the aristocracy of Northern Italy and holding moderate-conservative views, [3] thanks to the support of the moderate wing of the "Left" and part of the independents, managed to secure a parliamentary majority for their cabinet.

276,523 people out of 504,263 who had the right to vote took part in the elections, so the turnout was 54.84%. [4] The turnout could have been higher if not for the opposition from the Catholic Church , whose head , Pius IX , unhappy with the accession to the Italian kingdom of most of the Papal States , demanded that Catholics not take part in the election of a new state.
