Biography
Ivan Lozenko was born on June 6, 1916 in the village of Kovtunovka (now Oak Guy, Priluksky District, Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine ). He graduated from junior high school and one course of veterinary college. In August 1936, Lozenko was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940, he graduated from the Chuguev Military Aviation Pilot School. From June 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .
By December 1943, Captain Ivan Lozenko commanded a squadron of the 431st assault air regiment of the 299th assault aviation division of the 16th Air Army of the Belarusian Front . By that time, he had made 154 combat sorties to attack the clusters of military equipment and enemy manpower, inflicting heavy losses on him. December 15, 1943 in the battle Lozenko was fatally wounded. He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Skepnya, Zhlobinsky District, Gomel Region, Belarus [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 13, 1944, Captain Ivan Lozenko was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command to destroy enemy personnel and equipment and showing courage and heroism". He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , two Orders of the Red Banner , and the Order of Suvorov , 3rd class [1] .
