Getting
- In nature, there is a relatively rare mineral xenotime - YPO 4 with impurities of dysprosium , erbium , terbium and ytterbium ; impurities of thorium and uranium are common (all replace yttrium). Due to the impurities of uranium and thorium, some xenotime samples may be weakly or strongly radioactive [1] .
- The reaction of yttrium chloride and phosphoric acid, followed by the addition of ammonia solution:
Physical Properties
Yttrium phosphate forms colorless crystals of tetragonal syngony, cell parameters a = 0.68832 nm, c = 0.60208 nm.
Forms crystalline hydrates of the composition YPO 4 • n H 2 O, where n = 1 and 2.
Crystalline hydrate of the composition YPO 4 • 2H 2 O — colorless crystals of monoclinic syngony , space group B 2 / b , cell parameters a = 0.648 nm, b = 1.512 nm, c = 0.628 nm, β = 129.4 °, Z = 4.
