List of persons depicted on Hungarian banknotes

The list of persons depicted on Hungarian banknotes is compiled in alphabetical order, the person names are given in accordance with the rules for naming articles adopted on Wikipedia.

The article does not indicate:

  • allegorical images (Gunnia at 5,000 kroons in 1920, etc.);
  • portraits of unknown models;
  • portraits of models who are not political, military figures, cultural figures or other significant persons (Valeria Rudash at 2 pence 1940, etc.).

The release of Hungarian banknotes was launched during the revolution of 1848-1849 . Of all the banknotes issued by the revolutionary government, only at 10 forints of 1848 a female head was depicted, on other bills there were no images of people. In 1919, the Hungarian Soviet Republic issued notes of the Postal Savings Bank. At all the denominations of this issue there were images of people, but not a single image was a portrait of any historical, military leader or other famous person. Issue of banknotes with portraits of historical characters was launched in 1920 [1] .

Istvan I Holy

Istvan I (c. 970 / 975-1038) - the first king of Hungary (c. 1001-1038).

Ferenc Helbing performed the drawing of 1000 kroons of 1920 and 1923 banknotes, Zoltan риgri 1927, and Endre Horvat 1936. At 10 pengyo of 1936, a monument to Istvan in Buda is depicted. On banknotes of 1,000 pengyo of 1927 and 2,000 forints of 2000, there is a picture of Gyula Benzur's “Baptism of Vaika” (Vaik is the name of Istvan before baptism).

Secheni, Istvan

Istvan Secheni (1791–1860) is a Hungarian reformer and writer who made a significant contribution to raising national sentiment in Hungary before the surge of radicalism in the 1840s.

Shebestien Tinody (c. 1510-1556) - poet , songwriter and lute player . A prominent representative of the Hungarian epic poetry of his time, one of the last wandering bards .

The banknote drawing was made by Andre Horvat. The banknote shows a monument to Shebestien Tinodi by Gyula Bezeredi.

Ferenc II Rakoczi

Ferenc II Rakoczy (1676-1735) - Prince of Transylvania since 1704, supreme prince of the Confederation since 1705, leader of the anti-Habsburg national liberation war of the Hungarian people in 1703-1711.

The drawing of banknotes of 1920, 1926 and 1945 was performed by Ferenc Helbing , 1951-1986 by Andre Horvat. The banknotes depict a portrait of Ferenc Rakoczy by Adam Magnyoki.
