Gam Crater ( lat. Gum ) - a large impact crater on the western edge of the East Sea on the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the Australian astronomer , known for his research on emission nebulae and galactic radio emission Colin Stanley Gam (1924-1960), and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970.

Crater Description
The immediate neighbors of the crater are the Abel Crater in the northwest; Guernsback Crater in the northeast; Jenner Crater in the east-southeast and Hamilton Crater in the south-west [1] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 54.6 km [2] , depth 0.82 km [3] .
The crater has a circular shape, is severely destroyed, in the eastern part of the rampart there is a gap through which the crater was filled with basaltic lava during the formation of the East Sea basin. Only the remains of the shaft protrude above the surface. The southeastern part of the shaft is covered by a small crater, the northeastern part of the shaft is covered by the remains of a small crater, which forms another rupture of the shaft. The volume of the crater is approximately 2,400 km³ [4] . The bottom of the crater bowl is flooded and lined with lava, marked by several small craters. The albedo of the crater bowl corresponds to the albedo of the East Sea.
Due to the location near the southeastern limb of the Moon, the shape of the crater is distorted during observations from the Earth and the possibility of its observation depends on the libration of the Moon.
